I take this as:

1. We have been able to make amazing advancements within IT over the last few years

2. There are nevertheless serious limitations and even subjectivity within these systems

3. We need to try to employ wisdom in order to affect meaningful, positive change

Meaning that ChatGPT was just great marketing. Optimization is improving but AI is only going to geg better and we need to be wise in implementing it and not do unnecessary solutions in the name of data driven insights etc

I agree in the sense that the iPhone was also just good marketing. So was the iPod. So was the iPad. But all three went on to change the world, and rapidly.

TL;DR version: marketing matters, and it matters a lot!

I think you missthe point. Marketing doesn't mean success for sure. It's the implementation of the idea. Ideas cam EB stolen but the supply chain, and backend process development is an IP that can't be stolen easily. They did a great job with a robust optimal solutions that redefined the market standard. They proposed an emergent tech solution and completely new implementation. Since the Mac and more. Apple is about building products that are end to end holistically integrating and adding to their ecosystem. It's systems thinking at its best 😜
